UV or ultraviolet is radiation with wavelengths shorter than those of the visible light spectrum. Our eyes naturally filter out some UV light, but UVA rays, a sub-type of UV rays, can penetrate through our cornea and reach the lens and retina in our eyes.
UV radiation is emited from sunlight, tanning lamps, and black lights. We all are familiar with the effects of sunlight exposure; a little sunlight give us that tannish glow that is highly sought after. However, overexposure to UV can cause suntan, freckling, sunburn and can even lead to skin cancer. Like our skin, UV light can also cause similar damages to our eyes. Too much UV exposure can lead to photokeratitis (sunburn for our eyes). Also with increased exposure, UV can increase our risks for cataract and macular degeneration.
Certain lenses, like the ones we provide, offer UV protection. UV coating lenses help absorb some of the harmful radiation from your eyes. UV protection is important in the long-run, and is essential in maintaining healthy eyes. Every lens at Dualens is offered with UV protection along with anti-reflection and anti-scratch. We've got you covered. Try on a pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses and start protecting your eyes from harmful UV radiation.
